What is this? (weird mutant machine)
I was cruising CL and ran into this: http://richmond.craigslist.org/atq/3335352345.html
It looks like a Red Eye 66, except for the part where it's got BOTH the slide plates for a bullet shuttle AND the standard 66 bobbin case. I know Singer did some retrofitting, but this? I've never seen before. If not Singer, who, and how, and why??
It's close enough and cheap enough that I could be tempted to hop up there this weekend and check it out. But in the meantime, has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

MrsBoats,
Look realllllllly close. The shuttle slide plates is tape. It's a Singer Mdl 66 . It's also missing the slide plate and possibly the presser foot and the needle bar doesn't look right either. Could just be the fuzzy picture though.

Whoo. Yes, I see it now that you say it, Joe. Boy, did I get faked out! I think it's the fact that the tape is split where the slide plates would separate.
...That would have been an interesting machine to find!

Remember a month or so ago I had a clone with really icky medical tape on it? You said Tri-Flow oil would remove it. I did use oil, but not Tri-Flow as that's too darn expensive. The LSA oil I used took the tape right off and there was no finish damage.
So, on that red eye I'd just soak it good for a while then gently start rubbing it off.
