other than drawing a line from corner to corner or pressing square in half the only other option for me was to draw a line with a magic marker straight out from the needle on my machine to line up the point as it feeds under the presser foot.

Remove the foot. Make sure the presser foot bar is clean of oil, lint and other debris.
Do the same for the foot.
Now put the foot against bar see if it fits squarely. If it wont, if it wobbles, or does anything but fit flush on the flat of the bar, then it's not right for your machine.
I've run into this with modern made feet. They don't always make them to the right specs and then they won't fit correctly. I've had to relieve metal for a good fit on a couple of them.
