Odd about these Amish communities, but I like it. It's seems like a more or less enclosed alternative to the industrial world, with out me knowing too much about it. For those who step out of a community like that, it takes a time to build up a social network and every day structure for themselves.

I didin't know the new Berninas could be treadled, I didn't see any cam stack when I looked inside the current mechanical version. There's a lot of step motors and what not these days, and they need electricity. It's nice to hear some of the models can convert and run on a leather belt. As I mentioned before, I have seen Bernina 530s, and perhas there are a few 730 that still could be ordered in a treadle cabinet.

Look at this one, it looks original enough with the hand wheel and gray metal plate for the belt. I'm guessing 1950s, but I think the gray Pfaffs were made well into the 60s.

Mickey treadle machines never stopped being made, we just don't see them advertised much in the first world. Even Janome has a treadle model. http://janome.com/en/machines/sewing/712t/

Well I just tried uploading a post about chaining on Slants here...
It was so difficult I gave up.

    2017 & QB is using 1998 software.
    Get real QB.
I spent 3 hours compiling a useful addition to this thread, even taking photos to make it clear... I do not do it again.
