I bought the coffin top machine today. I am so tickled!!! It does have some minor issues with the cabinet but I am okay with that. The drop leaf on the side has broken off but maybe I can get it fixed soon. Just need to find someone I can trust.

My, you have a beautiful piece of history there.
My husband is a Civil War collector and he's drooling.
I am sure you will find someone who can restore the broken leaf.
    Have you named her yet?

    Thank you for sharing.
    Blessings to you,
    Sandi

That's the oldest machine I've ever seen. Simply beautiful.

I was hoping this was an Antebellum machine but the last patent date is 1869.

So the earliest this machine was made was 1869, but it could go up to the 1880's. It is a very nice example of an early machine. If I were you go join the NeedleBar and start asking questions. Claire and Alan would be the ones that would know more about it that I would. Plus it would be nice for them to have an example of your machine for the site.

You are the proud owner of an Antique Sewing Machine and you belong to an elite group of people. Do not do anything but clean and fix the leaf but do not alter the finish on anything!

And I added this thread to the Virtual Section for vintage sewing machines!!
