Default Attachment for Singer walking foot

I just bought a Walking foot for my 221. I understand attaching it to my FW but there is a thingy that came with it; looks like a bent-out-of-shape paper clip but larger. What is this thing and how am I supposed to use it?

    Thanks - -

A picture would be helpful to identify it but it sounds like a needle guard to me.

It is the guide so you can quilt a straight line. It goes through the hole in the plastic case on the walking foot. You sew the first line and then follow it with the guide. There should be a paper showing you how it works. Look on the internet.

Shoot, I should have thought of that, but I rarely use a walking foot. I'm more likely to use the type of guide that slips onto the presser foot screw.

I know it is a strange looking piece. The problem I usually have with it is there is no screw to tighten it down with and it sometimes moves from the original position I have it in. Consequently, I don't use mine at all.
