Another realm of vintage sewing machines that I have not ventured into. Uh Oh!

I have always wondered about the chain stitch. Now and then an old treadle chain stitcher turns up and I have seen pictures of W&Gs machines with electrical setups. They were equipped with full sets of accessories and clever attachments. I am guessing we could adapt the chain stitch to a lot of sewing if just gave it a try. I know some seek out Singer 401 and a few of the early Touch&Sew because of their chain stitch. I don't know all it's advantages but I know they use it for decorative seams on jeans pockets, and I know utility seams like sacks can be closed by a seam and it comes undone by loosening the end stitch and it unravels.

A 401 does not chain stitch. I *think* it's some of the later German made 400 series machines that will.

Welcome to the club! Toy machines are a new addiction. They are so cute and many are perfect. They are my favorite hunt for item in Antique Stores. Congrats on your new toy.
