Joe, that "steampunk" term is one I am learning to hate.
Steampunk is a trend/fashion/ fad sort of thing that sort of combines modern mechanical/ technology stuff with a sort of almost Victorian style. One example would be a computer keyboard with antique typewriter keys for buttons. The people who are into it use a lot of small mechanical pieces like gears from old watches and typewriter keys to create the look they're after. No small antique is safe from them. I lump them in the same category of people that tosses the sewing machine head to use the treadle base for an end table or the same guys tearing up old woodworking machines to use the bases for tables.
Basically Ebay sellers use the term to increase sales not caring if the machine is destroyed in the process.
