I am not sure I ever saw anything like that. In metal.

No idea then. I was mistaking it for a metal version of those glass sewing machine feet.

Is it to cover the feed dogs so you can do free-motion quilting? Hard to tell what size it is.

Yes, Annette -that's what it's for - and built for a particular machine and hard to find because people lose them.
It's probably about the size of the first bone in my thumb....

in that trailer full of machines, There is a big bag of attachments feet and parts of all kinds.. There's a cover plate just like that or very much like that. I knew what it was, but not what it goes to.

I had it in my hand but could see what held it in place. I mean that needle better hit the hole every time and the needle plate hole. I going to see what he'll take for the whole bag of stuff

For a straight stitch machine, it should be a no brainer to get it to hit the right spot. The hole's about the same size as the one in the needleplate. I've seen a very similar one for Elnas as well. In fact, the first time I saw the one for the Elna, I thought I'd hit the jackpot.

This one is fairly highly coveted though largely because of the popularity of the machine it belongs to. And with that, I've probably given it away.

There are 3 prongs that hold it where it needs to be. I haven't put this one in place yet but it looks to me like it hooks into the slots where the dogs are so there'd be no wiggling.

When I looked at your pic the old ..... "I've seen one of those things - somewhere - some time - some place" light bulb lit up. But I have no idea. My wife said the same thing. Now we'll probably end up digging through all our stuff to see if we might have one.

Oh, I think it's a feed dog cover for a Feather Weight.

I would have guessed it was for the Elna Supermatics. Looks like not though.
