Default Broken foot pedal on White irons

I have irons only that I am thinking of using in some way, but the foot pedal is broken. McGyver Jr, my son, tried JB weld epoxy - the thick gray one, but it didn't hold. What will? It won't be used for treadling, just decor.

I didn't part out one of those pretty cabinets - my daughter found the irons in the basement of an old building downtown.

JB Weld should work. Most likely the area to bond was not cleaned enough. These old Irons get oily and greasy and dirty, the bond surface need to be almost surgical clean for it to work. Also the mix (usually 50/50) should be adjusted to 60/40 with the extra on the hardener side.

The only other way I know of is to braze it. That is like welding but uses a lower temp and used bronze/brass rod to fuse the iron. (It is kinda like hot glue for metal)

Thank you. Steve. So I'll get a fresh tube of JB Weld and try again. My son swears I can repair anything with duct tape, but not this.

also as a quick note. If the iron is hollow behind, you can add something like a short length of 1/4" bar stock behind it to act like a splint.

I had an article one entitled "Duct tape: Scotch tape for the real world" it is SOOO true. I have literally made a fan belt for a 1966 VW bug with one.. worked well enough that I could wait until payday to get a real one.
