Default Can a Singer Zig zag attachment be used as a walking foot?

I've recently read that a zig zag attachment can be used as a walking foot. Does anyone know if the attachment can be used in this way and if it functions well as a walking foot? Would it function better than the new walking foot attachments? I want to start a project that might require a walking foot and would like to use my Singer 201. Any infomation would be appreciated.

I don't know about using a zigzagger for a walking foot, I've always thought of it as a neat thing to have but not something to use. This is the walking foot I have for my straight stitch machines:

It works just fine on a 201, I just used it on mine for 2 baby quilts.

If money doesn't matter the Swiss Zigzagger will work as a walking foot. Neither of the others do. You easily switch between zigzag and straigth stitch while it's mounted. If you have other things to spend money on, go for a regular walking foot made for the old straight stitchers. It cost less to get a 401 up and running and buying a slant shank walking foot than the Swiss Zigzagger itself. If you are lucky and find the zigzagger some where at a reasonable price, grab it, but I haven't been that happy with my zigzag attatchment. I have a more common large black zigzagger, nothing special. The same for the penguin walking foot, it's priced as a collectors gem, not really for the average user. If you really want one its' all right though, they aren't impossibly expensive.

The one Cari showed you on sew classic is the one I have too I bought 10 years ago for my Kenmore and works great on my 201. Sorry I have no clue about the zigzagger. The price is good on that walking foot also.
