Default Canola oil for restoring treadle cabinets?

I keep reading on another board the suggestion to clean the cabinets with vinegar and canola oil. Isn't the canola oil a bad idea? I read somewhere that food-grade oils turn rancid and shouldn't be used.

Is that an urban legend? Or is this home-style recipe OK to use?

I use Linseed oil, applied heavily, allowed to be absorbed and then wipe off excess. I follow-up later with a good paste wax (I prefer TreWax). This is after I have removed the original finish.

Don't use canola oil and yes it will turn rancid and will smell bad. Vinegar is a good cleaner but I don't use it. I stay away from stuff that has a lot of water in it such as vinegar because water can loosen the glue under the veneer. I will stick to my solution 1 and 2.

Me too! (but now I can caution against this canola oil hack with some authority)
