BTW: You probably won’t find a belt guard and bobbin winder painted the same color as mine. Mine is a rebuild and has been repainted, and it might be hard to match the finish. I showed it to you so that you can see what shape it is and how it mounts. Most belt guards like the one that you need will be available from vintage machines that haven’t been repainted. They will closely match your machine, especially if you find one that has damage to the decals. It mounts with a single small screw in the top of the machine.

I believe that a belt guard and bobbin winder from a Singer Model 127 may also fit your Veva. It also shared the same long bobbin as Veva. Veva bobbins are available new, and old original ones are still fairly plentiful, so you should be able to find them fairly easily and get Veva sewing again.

The missing front slide plate can be cobbled up for Veva by obtaining a new one available today for the Singer 27. It will be longer, but you can cut it off to fit. A better choice, for such a historical machine as Viva, would be to find one from another 28. It will match the other plates better.

At least it is looking a bit cleaner. It will never be perfect or new again. It will sew like it is new though. There are people who would strip it down and paint it. I kind of feel like it would lose so much of it's history though. Be sure to read the other information. As far as cost goes I don't know how it compares. My machine was just a few dollars. The other machine was just a few dollars but has kept other machines working. The tension spring was $1, rubber tire $1, bobbins $1 each The Naptha, denatured alcohol, boiled linseed oil and shellac were expensive but I plan to do more machines and so far I haven't used very much. You can also use those on the cabinet if you have one. Glenn has information about restoring cabinets, too.

Here are a couple close up pictures of how bad the finish looks:

This second picture is after some clean up with the linseed oil and alcohol. It has a long ways to go to be very smooth. The first picture is before I cleaned it but it doesn't look a whole lot better yet. It is clean though.

If you follow Glenn's directions the decals you have left should be preserved. It is good that you did some research before you started!!! Show some pictures of your machine as you make progress.

It is still rough to touch. Glenn says with a bit of work and patience it will smooth up and not loose the decals. Right now it is coated with linseed oil.
