This White machine that William brought home to me today is older than I thought... seems to have been made in 1919 from what I can find on the web...I'll call White on Monday to be sure. :)

Poor old thing...at first I thought I didn't want her, but the more I look at her, the more I think she needs to stay!

Chart was right on with the date that I was given when I called on the phone - 1922, Cleveland, Ohio.

That link has been changed since this was posted 8 years ago. If you will either start a new thread and post a photo of your machine or just post it here, you will probably get some help.

You will need to reduce the size of your photo for it to post. I usually reduce mine to 96 dpi and have no trouble posting. You can use several different programs, but Paint comes installed with Windows. It's under windows accessories.

Welcome. It can be very difficult to determine how old some of these machines are.. Are there any patent dates on the plates near the needle? There have been some people that have gathered information from a variety of sources, including paperwork that came with the machine.

From my understanding, the "Family Rotary" model of White sewing machines were produced from sometime in the 1890s to the early 1920s.

After looking at http://www.treadleon.net/WhiteSM/whites.html I'm wondering if there are six or seven digits on your machine. It looks like some of the six digits are out of sequence.

I have a White Rotary machine and the serial number starts with 43X......
I tried calling Viking and they refuse to date the machine for me. Does anyone have any idea what age this machine might be?

Sculptured lamp housing, friction wheel drive, godzilla finish, blond cabinet all point to newer. But I've never chased dates on my Whites. Yours is earlier than the ones with two twist knobs for stitch length.

There is a bronze one of the same design that is even prettier.
