    Charlee,

The darning attachment that lifts the regular presser foot is called a Stoppax.
Here a picture (very blurry) that shows the tiny lift that the presser foot gets. The lift is adjustable. The instructions call for only a 3/16 lift. I would assume that even less would work for a thinner fabric sandwich.
I also attached two pictures of the instructions.

    Cathy,

I want one, or two. Think Muv could find us some and ship 'em????

I wonder what 3/6 would be in US dollars?

Now that I know some of those in the first pic aren't funky earrings, I want one too for a 301!

Cathy, would one work on a slant foot machine?
    Thanks, Cindy

    Cindy,

I'll try it out on my 301 tomorrow and let you know.

The FMQ feet available for the 301 (clear plastic and metal with cut out) have much better visibility than this foot lifter mechanism would. Neat, but there are better options for real life use. It's a fun gadget, though.

    Candace,

I think using something like a button sew-on foot or open toe embroidery foot would give you the visibility that you like. The straight stitch foot would not give much visibility at all.

That's true. A buttonhole foot would be the best with this gadget. I agree!

    Cindy,

Yes, the Stoppax spring worked very well on my 301. I did have to screw the finger all the way down and then bend it slightly so as to ride better on the needle bar screw. I also used the button sew-on foot from my 403 so that I could see better.

    Cindy and everyone,

I just tried out another spring on the 301. Worked perfectly without any modifications.
