    You only shoul clean it with sew machine oil. That finish you have you don't want to ruin it. and your cabinet completely closes so that you can set another machine on the top. after the machine is inside it close the cover( the board to your left as you close it. and that would have been a bery pretty cabinet to leave the machine in.

    I don't understand, the photo you uploaded shows a hinged lid attached to the table. This lid, when closed, makes the cabinet look like a normal table. You don't need a plank. The table it was in was in beautiful condition, too.
