Oh Sideways, I am SO sorry about what happened, but I have to say when I read your post, I burst out laughing. Definitely not because it was funny, but it just hit me in my, "OMGoodness....". Again, not to make fun, but I would have loved to see your face. The disbelief......

Okay, I must admit that I LOL'd too. My 1st thougth was "Oh, don't worry, you will win, it's open-and-shut case of SNAD." :-D But I can understand your disappointment at not receiving a sewing machine.

This might be one of the rare cases where PayPal will pay the return shipping. At any rate, you will certainly get a refund for SNAD, Significantly Not As Described. I hope your unfortunate sewing machine is okay and that this will work out well.

Look on the bright side: If seller packed the typewriter that well, they probably did okay on the machine, too.

This happened to me once, two items got flip-flopped. The way the seller and the other buyer and PayPal and I worked it out was the seller sent me money to ship the wrong item on to the correct buyer, and that other buyer to ship the correct item to me, and we all exchanged tracking numbers. Everyone was honest, and after the musical chairs game, the money and the goods all wound up in the right hands.

Many years ago as a seller on Ebay, I had two packages switched. It happened at the FedEx desk during the Christmas season. I wasn't paying attention to the FedEx worker as he slapped the wrong label on the wrong package. It was an expensive mistake for me, but everyone cooperated in getting things to the right place.

Good and honest communication goes along ways on Ebay. I hope your situation turns out ok.

Something similar has happened to me a couple of times. One time I got a buttonholer instead of something else -- don't remember what. The seller sent me $5 to return it. (I think this was before paypal). But recently it happened to a friend -- unfortunately it was a case of the seller not wanting to sell the item for the price that my friend paid, so instead of sending him his antique rug, the seller sent a box of video games. My friend told the seller what happened, and he denied it up and down -- said he never had any video games. One of the rare dishonest sellers on ebay. So my friend opened up a case and ebay sent my friend a pre-paid packing label to return it with either UPS or USPS, whichever was more convenient. It does require effort on your part, but it will work out in the end. It is a rare occurrence, and I'm really sorry it happened to you. But don't write ebay off -- the vast majority of transactions go off without a hitch. But I should tell you that my friend did not read his email carefully enough -- he had only 7 or 14 days to return the box (can't remember which), and he did not return it in time so he lost the case. And he didn't even leave negative feedback for the seller because he missed the deadline for that, too.

I ordered an antique egg turner and got a dipper! I contacted my seller and we got things worked out. I finally received the right item.

My LOL thought was, you opened it up and wondered, "How the heck do you thread this thing?"

Hope everything works out for you.

I just keep trying to find something local when I only need it. I just don't trust anything too much on line for these very reasons. Too much money involved.
