Well that narrows it down for me. Thank you very much.

in fact, this is what it looks like

This is what I mean about the "stepped" presser bar. Even if it comes with a top clamp adaptor - when you take that off, this is what you'll see.

So THAT'S how it goes! those old illustrations, just don't click in my head. Thanks. I'm still struggling to figure out how to mate New Home attachment set I have to the New National hand crank, (New Home but old). I'm missing the adapter to go to the presser bar, and the other ones are too large of a hole.

You'll know if the tucker is correct for the machine when the bar rests right in front of the needle. if it's not right, the bar will be either too far away to get the hook on then needle without bending the bar, or the needle will hit the bar. You can adjust for this a little bit becaus the hole to mount the tucker to the machine is elongated.

Johnston adjusted for this by the coil on the end. For New Home, the distance is longer, so there is a pretty good sized spread to the coils. On some there is no spread, and others it's in between. But other than the different spreads to the coils, the tucker is the same for different machines.

Jim - is that the adapter you posted about a while ago? I thought you found one. I've seen several come up on eBay, so if you want, I can send you a heads up when I see another. It's the most common of the "weird" adapters for New Home.

I'd sure appreciate it! Not sure if I'd recognize 1 if I saw it.

This one is really easy to identify - because of the way it mounts high on the presser bar.
