It wasn't a scam. A friend of mine got it, but the ad persisted for way longer than it should have. I'm guessing the seller finally got tired of the calls and emails and took the time to figure out how to remove the ad.

My friend said she pounced on it within hours of the ad being posted and that the guy didn't know what he had (it was the MILs machine and I didn't get the impression that MIL was a DMIL.) and she asked if that was the best he could do and he actually sold it for less than it was posted for.

I would have gone after it myself but DH landed in the hospital a couple of days before that and I just couldn't come up with a good excuse for tying up the money.
