It has a potted motor so if it is not moving don't run the motor. Will probably require taking the motor off, then oiling and regreasing the bearings. This motor is not oiled. There are some good tutorials on YouKnowTube.

You got it for 1/10 of its worth for sure. The attachments are another $15-$20 and the gorgeous cabinet is worth about $90- $100. ( Nashville and Ebay prices). If the book is good, vintage, condition, then it would be $10-$12, plus all the other goodies. What a find! Afraid I would have overpaid and not driven as good a bargain as you did. Bravo! Follow Joe's instructions regarding the use of sewing machine oil and a soft cloth. Don't use solvents etc. Use Singer oil and grease. Please cut the ugly stuff from around the top, gently. This machine will last a lifetime, if well treated. You really scored.

Forgot to mention that there may be threads wound around things that move inside. Check carefullly for them and take them out. Sometimes they are in the bobbin. I found half a spool of thread would around the bobbin winder and was really suprised when I started puling it out of my 201. How did the poor thing ever manage to work at all. You can get a new bobbin tire from SewClassic.com in Ohio. They have all kinds of parts for this particular machine. No problem getting parts for a 201. With the book, you can learn how to use all the attachments too. Wow!
