Since it would be normal for the younger daughter to be wearing the short dress, I'll assume the second picture has DD at the machine while Mom is watching. Maybe in the first picture DD messed with Mom's machine and got it all messed up - I wonder if that has happened to any of us - either messing up Mom's machine, or our kids messing up ours LOL!!

Wow - look at the back side of Mom's dress. Looks like she's got a broom tucked in there too LOL!!

That card with the kids getting into things? That is what I picture when my DD called and said Wilbur and Walter got into the fridge and ate the lime meringue pie. She said they piled up anything they could to get up there. Wilbur won't climb so he held on to things. Walter got up on top of the pile and into the pie with a spatula - he ate some and passed the spatula down to Wilbur. Some things never change.

Somehow the second picture seems more realistic to me. Is that a thermometer on the right side?

    Yes, quite bizarre and allegorical.

I think the stags represent Singer and Wheeler Wilson.
