Made a $50 offer, but he wouldn't budge.
Singer 99K, and wait him out...if he doesn't come down after enough time, look for another one...there are lots of them out there!

I zig zag with my 401A, but I really don't like the way she sews.
she must need adjustment - either the machine or you...

I have worked on so many old Singers and other old machines it isn't funny. I haven't seen real many that aren't keepers. There is something good to be said for all the old machines. I like the clones, too. The old European machines are very nice - some are more complicated than others. I think it depends on what you are looking for and what you are looking to do with the machine. I have a Singer 403 that I keep set up ready to use. In a pinch I set up some other old machine just for the joy of it. I also have an old Elna that I love. Why limit to Singer? Kenmore made some very nice machines back in the day, too.

Today I worked on an old Japanese sewing machine. I believe that has to be the most quiet machine I have. I'm going to post a pic later on the Japanese ZZ thread.

I too have to say my 301A is probably my favorite. I like the old 1907 Singer treadle too..but what a work out you get doing a quilt on that one........I also have a(1919) 128 that sews good and she is pretty..........just got the latest one, a 621B made in Brazil.........it needs a good cleaning........and so far I havent found out much info, still looking ... then there is the Cadillac BERNINA.....does everything but the laundry. But he doesnt count, he isnt old enough..I would love to have a white FW but the prices are just so high for those....I keep checking the thrift stores.............

Not excluding the FW, the 301 is my favorite of all.

I'll say this quietly, because 99% of people here will disagree with me, but I can't see the attraction with featherweights.

That's a nice 99K that you have your eye on. If I used electric machines I would have my eye on it too. I love my 99K hand machine and my 15K treadle. They never let me down.

Muv, I agree with you. I have a FW and don't like it. I think is a wimpy machine. I will take my 99, 66 and 201 and all my other HC and treadle machines. You know we are in trouble now!!!

Miriam, Which Elna? I have a two-tone green Supramatic always in the ready. Is there a vtg Elna you'd recommend?
