If I had to save one, I'd be dragging my 201 out of the house. It runs quiet and steady. It's a workhorse for the heavy material and quilts and it has enough space to actually quilt a king size quilt with a little wiggling.
I zig zag with my 401A, but I really don't like the way she sews.

I have worked on so many old Singers and other old machines it isn't funny. I haven't seen real many that aren't keepers. There is something good to be said for all the old machines. I like the clones, too. The old European machines are very nice - some are more complicated than others. I think it depends on what you are looking for and what you are looking to do with the machine. I have a Singer 403 that I keep set up ready to use. In a pinch I set up some other old machine just for the joy of it. I also have an old Elna that I love. Why limit to Singer? Kenmore made some very nice machines back in the day, too.

I too have to say my 301A is probably my favorite. I like the old 1907 Singer treadle too..but what a work out you get doing a quilt on that one........I also have a(1919) 128 that sews good and she is pretty..........just got the latest one, a 621B made in Brazil.........it needs a good cleaning........and so far I havent found out much info, still looking ... then there is the Cadillac BERNINA.....does everything but the laundry.But he doesnt count, he isnt old enough..I would love to have a white FW but the prices are just so high for those....I keep checking the thrift stores.............

I'll say this quietly, because 99% of people here will disagree with me, but I can't see the attraction with featherweights.
That's a nice 99K that you have your eye on. If I used electric machines I would have my eye on it too. I love my 99K hand machine and my 15K treadle. They never let me down.
