don't be a lurker!! opinions and thoughts are the lifeblood of a forum!
I found a lot of good info on the 301 here
http://www.singer301.com/about/default.html which is worth a read.
My machine isn't marked Centennial, although my featherweight is. I don't care for the featherweight Someday I'll get off my lazy bum and put it up for sale.![Smile](https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png)
My saying the 301A is a 1951 machine is just ego, it is still a 1953 model
The Anderson facility didn't produce until 1953.
My saying I'm not a collector of anything is based on working through my house with FlyLady
and having had breast cancer in 2011 and lung cancer in 2013.
I do have a selection of 'users' though..
I was given a treadle by founder of TreadleOn, Richard Wrightman. Love it!
A client gave me a 1927 singer hand crank AND a 1946 White in a cabinet. Love them both!
Got caught up in the featherweight and bought one... don't like it, too little
I have a 15 clone which I got just because I wanted one, I've made two quilts on it and will let it go to the right person.
My 404 I got strictly for classes, my preference being the drop in bobbin. like the 301 it is aluminum frame and only 2 pounds more than the 301. Classes because by mid September we will both be retired and I'll finally get to do some of the things I've not been able to do before.
Oh, and I have a Janome 6600 I bought to use the 3 years I lived away from home caring for my FIL
and a 8900 as a reward when I finally got back home. I've got the machines through the house so I can sit down and sew with what ever view strikes my fancy that day.
Now see, if you hadn't come out of lurkdom we'd not know each other at all would we.
And I'm still most excited about the cabinet![Smile](https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png)

the 301a is officially bartered, for fabric. How fun is that!

Wheee!! I am so very excited! Kalama Quilts offered a barter deal to me which is perfect! I went through my stash of fabric to find ones she would take in exchange for the 301A. She lives about 11 hours away, but offered to "stop by" on their vacation trip to swap my fabric for her 301A.
Today was the day! I am simply tickled pink... Now I want to think of the right name for her, but nothing has clicked yet.
Safe travels, Kalama Quilts!
Oh, and I (Sheri) am on the left, in jeans.

Now that sounds like a win-win for you both! As I was reading through this whole thread I was happy for you Kalama, then when you posted pics of the cabinet and machine I almost fell off my chair! I just recently bought a black 301 in the same cabinet! mine is a little earlier though, the serial # is NA005763.
Cari
P.S. I believe the 301 is the only machine that fits in that cradle. And the cradle will only work in the cabinets that have the front clips. Most of the time when people remove the cradle from the cabinet they take the hinges off with the cradle still attached but don't remove the clips to go with the cradle.

This thread would make a great book. When someone finally gets a machine they've wanted, it's a great feeling.
My black 301A is from 1953 (according to ISMACS). Now that I have a better understanding of the 301's manufacturing history, I'll keep a sharper eye for the valuable ones!

Hi Gang, I'm on the road and have only tonight had time and speedy enough connection to check in. It was wonderful to get and give quilty hugs with Sheri. I'm saving the fabric to look through at my leisure when I get back home. Tomorrow I'l be in Mississippi to see a very ill friend, the point of the trip. I had turnip greens tonight, a first ![Smile](https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png)
Sheri, if you need those clips Cari referred to let me know. you and Tucker can come and get 'em

I hope tomorrow is a good day for you and your friend.
Pretty 301 is shined up and sitting in a place of honor on my dining room table.
I love her!
And, yes, I'd love to have the clips that attach the cradle to the cabinet. I'll email you after you get home.

Cari - I believe those clips are the same as what you'll find in a 401 or 500 cabinet. Older cabinets had the wood routered and the machine sat on it, but with the 301 and newer, the base of the machine is such that it won't clear the wood support.
