Default Follow-up on "Questions on old Singer"

Added a reply on the original message but not sure those of you who commented on it would see it, so will try posting a new thread on it.

I cleaned the Singer 66 up, oiled it, and got it working smoothly and perfectly. Love sewing on it. On recommendation of someone I used machine oil on it to bring out the luster and now wonder if that was a good idea as it seems that maybe the decals are rubbing off a bit. For all you experts out there, is there anything like a shellac that I could put on it to preserve it or do you have any other suggestions for me. Guessing the oil may not have been the best advice. Thanks for any help you can give me and I so wish I would have asked this question before listening to someone else. Sharon

Oil is the safest thing you can use. If the decals are coming off and you want to go to the next step the links Joe posted above will guide you.

I've noticed the green colored decal parts on the Redeye 66 particularly delicate which I assume is what you have. SM Oil and cotton balls is about as delicate as you can get save no cleaning at all.

If you're noticing silvering chances are the shellac clear coat has worn thru. The links Joe posted are your best bet.
