Default FYI-BelAir Bantam Sewing Machine Model 33 in Case on GW

This is a lightweight aluminum clone of the Singer 99K. Anyone in the Denver area that wants one, go for it. I have a SEWMOR like this and it's a wonderfully handy little machine.

There's no bids on it at this time, so I hope I'm not letting someones secret out of the bag.

I've been watching that one and wondering if it was aluminum or not. Thanks for the info Joe, now I know another to watch for. IIRC Denver doesn't ship most of the machines they list though it looks like they have a good relationship with the local UPS store there. I'm tempted but am pretty sure shipping -especially after picking it up and boxing it-would be a deal breaker for me.

    Rodney,

It would be easy if you had family or friends in the area that could pick it up and ship it to you. I don't, so I thought I'd pass it on.
If you'll look at the pic with the open bobbin area you can see the aluminum. Cast iron just looks different. Then there's the weight. I know a cast iron 99 weights more than 20 some pounds naked.

It looks to be a nice machine. Hope you can get it.

If I had friends or family in that area I'd be the proud owner of the machine with the enclosed arts & crafts style treadle that passed thru there a week or two ago. THAT was a beautiful machine and IMO worth the expense of shipping. Too bad my finances didn't allow it.
I'm pretty sure my wife would say no to the Bantam. Christmas is around the corner and it would be difficult to justify the expense to her.
    There will be others.

I do have a friend who lives near there. I wonder if I could get them to pick it up and ship for me

Yes. When you see the weight on GW auctions that is the shipping weight. Not the actual weight of the machine. That's generally less.

I decided against bidding on this machine as it would be almost $100 to ship it. This is using the UPS Store. Even though GW says pickup only it can be picked up by UPS, packaged and shipped. $25 to pickup, $17 to package based on the dimensions of this machine, plus whatever the postage is, in my case it was $35. Add this to what ever the bid may have been and it would have been too much for me so its still available if someone wants it.

I'll enable - I mean help - anybody who buys it.
I would just want cost reimbursement.
I can pick it up sometime early next week from their center and pack it. I'd need something for materials and postage but that would be it.
