Haha -- you're right! That's what I get for thinking I can read numbers.

well I had to really really look at the last number, to be sure it is a number.

I wouldn't give that price for it, but the person that doesn't want or doesn't have the tools and area to refinish these. The price isn't out of line..

rebuilding those old cabinet can nickle and dime you to death..

I don't think $150 is unreasonable for that setup at all. Most Singer cabinets I see are either oak or walnut. That one is birds-eye maple and the most ornate style short of a parlor cabinet. The pheasant decals are in nice shape too. I'm wondering where the powder blue motor, controller and light came from.
I really like the National up in Port Orchard too. The deco trim is nice. I really hate hidden reserve auctions though. If there's a minimum price you want start the bidding from there so people know if they want to bother with it.

I believe the psychology (seller's trickery) behind this - since the early eBay days - is that people get hooked and emotionally attached and actively involved once they start bidding. I think some recent GW 'out there' bidding wars are proving that point....

That controller goes with a Singer 185j - and I wish we had that! Also goes with a green 2nd generation Spartan.

Looks like they pulled that number out of a hat.

    "How about $1069?"

    "........OK."
