I don't know, I think I could be bothered to hunt down a foot pedal for an additional $600.

It's amazing what sellers think that people will fall for.

Well, there's also the fact that it's a knee lever machine - and the knee lever is present....

The treadle is a complete makeover. I haven't decided if all the wood has all been completely replaced. The table top certainly has. Singer wasn't in the habit of using roll cut red oak veneer on their tops. Walnut or quartersawn white oak were the woods of choice back then.

I was 99% sure on the cabinet, I think the machine head must be too?

Is this original do you think, or redone? SteveH maybe you'd know?

I do not see any elements of this that look original, Decals, cabinet, maybe the irons, but clearly a repaint on those as well

    sorry about your keyboard Cathy.
It might not be theirs. It's completely possible you'd arrive there and it would be a 15 treadle.

I bet the conversation went like this:
seller: i have this sewing machine, it's a Singer.
Friend: oh! Those are rare! I saw one on (ebay, antiques roadshow, etc) and they're worth tons!
seller (with dollar signs in his eyes): tons? Like what?
    friend: like,... $800!!!!
Seller: well this one's missing a pedal.... I think I'll put it in for 1/4 it's value and see if anyone grabs it....

    Yeah, right.

the poor seller probably sees the hits to his ad and thinks the calls are going to roll in anytime now.

thanks Steve! At first glance there was crushing disappointment that I didn't have the cabbage to go get it, then on closer inspection everything looked wrong but I had to ask. It's still pretty though. . Just not from an authenticity POV.

I didn't see that one but you're probably right. I've seen some good machines priced reasonably sit for months. There's a Western Electric I've been eying that I might make a try for next month if it's still there. It's been sitting forever at $40 in a bentwood case and has a hamilton beach motor.
