Interesting! Took a look at a bunch of the adds. So many, are 'some one else's manchine ...., but they are selling it like it was their machine... Makes me wonder! Especially, the ones where it is the fiancee's grandmother's machine. So, why is the fiancee not selling it?!

There is a FW on craigslist in Albany, OR for $675 -- the owner feels justified because she knows the "history" ... lol

I have bought three machines that the seller claimed were long time family possessions, and i asked each one of them "are you sure you want to part with this? maybe your kids will want it some day" they usually say something like "nahhh, it's not worth enough for them to want it"

I have my grandmother's Singer 15-90. My sister had it originally but was to quote her "getting rid of crap". It still works and I want to use it, I am just lacking enough hours in the day. Mom thinks that her mother, my grandmother, also had a treadle at one point. I have no idea what happened to that.

I wonder how many of these "dusty old machines" did end up in the dump because no one appreciated their value and beauty.

ok, so this is not a sewing machine, but the concept we were discussing is the same

"I inherited it from my Mother who inherited from her Mother who brought it to California from Missouri by covered wagon is the story I was told, so it has been in the family for a long time. I am asking for $100 (OBO)."

How could a person sell this...? I would have to be in a pretty darn rough situation to make me sell that if it was part of my family's heritage!
