for myself, I went to GW, looking for whatever empty cabinet or attachments, ...instead I found for $5 "As IS" and got the senior discount. I don't think it needs much, really clean. Someone had dinked around with the stitch length reverse knob and I sorted that out. Put on a cord block. Now I need to go borrow a needle clamp to see how it sews. One thing that convinced me is that it had a switchable needle position. The one thing I noticed lugging it around is that it has to be the heaviest SM I own, at 36 pounds and I think "Princess" is a bit of a misnomer!

I gifted myself with a Sears Kenmore 158.1802 for its chain stitch capabilities and got more machine than expected. I almost feel like I'm betraying my Singers I like it so much.

can't help it. here's my first buy for this year. this is the first time i've seen a 301A in person and the first time i tested it. can't believe how nice this machine is. i am so glad and so appreciative of all your advise and inputs. if not for you guys this machine will still be out there looking for an owner. this is definitely a keeper and as soon as my daughter starts to get fascinated with sewing, this will be her machine. thanks for all your help.

I have been good. I realized on Monday, 1/13/14, that I have more vintage machines than FB friends but I'm okay with that. I am trying to downsize. I was sorely tempted by a CL listing but decided not to even inquire. Looked at several in thrift stores but none that I absolutely positively need to obtain.

you know that's one thing i have not done yet. check my local thrift stores. i know that some of the members here have found good sewing machines at a thrift store. maybe i should check it out as there's not much to look at at CL.

Looked at 2 more today, both treadles. Both need some TLC and one needs major TLC. Didn't stop the compulsion to want to buy but I did restrain myself. I keep on repeating "I am downsizing" over and over again and hoping it sticks.

Vic, I already have 5 but I keep looking anyway. It's the thrill of the hunt.
