Yeah, I know better.....sometimes I just have a dumb moment. Seems like I get more and more of those since menopause.

Love looking at your Free Westinghouse. That was my mother's machine that I learned to sew on. Mom never had another and this one lasted many decades for her and my sister and myself as we were sewing for 4-H and clothes for school. Brings back many memories. Thanks for posting.

You mention 2 hr drive from an Iowa address. If it's south it may be in my area. I like the looks of that machine and cabinet and I can make a Singer fit if desired I bet. Anywhere near NW MO?

Cathy,
This takes the CC or 1221 or 40F1 needle which is 1.8mm shorter than the 15x1. The needle-bar is very easy to raise. I did this back in January on 7 Free-Westinghouse machines so that they would sell at the huge rummage sale I volunteer at. Very nice machines. I have a gold one and a black one, both are using 15x1 needles now.

Mariam,
Yes, needle-bar height only. No other timing points. And it is only one screw. Put a needle in the needle-bar. Loosen the needle-bar setscrew inside the faceplate. Wiggle the bar up 1.8mm. Make sure the eye of the needle is still aligned right to left (the flat to the right), re-tighten the screw. Turn the hand-wheel slowly to make sure there is no interference. I had only one machine that the top of the last thread guide hit the casting at the top position of the needle-bar. I adjusted that interference with the trusty ole Dremel.
