help identify a garage sale find. 15 clone?
Found a machine with a cabinate at a local garage sale for $15, couldn't pass it up. The onlything printed on the machine, other than the electric motor, is "Made in Occupied Japan". There is a JSM on the bottom of the machine and on the back of the bobbin plate. There also is what I asume is a serial number plate with J118946 stamped on it. Any help identifying itwould be greatly appreciated.

That is a nice clone. I've never seen a 15 clone with that style of stitch length regulator. That style is common on the 99s but not the 15s.
As for the serial number on the base in front of the pillar, all mine are like that. I think I have 6 now? I'll have to count them.

That is a beautiful machine, and I would have grabbed it right up and toted it around with me (or made DH tote it around, I am sure it is HEAVY) while I was looking over the rest of the stuff at the yard sale. Is it quiet? Can you lift it at all? It will be a dream for piecing, or teach a grandkid to sew on.

Oh yeah, I went back and reviewed the postings here and noticed the case is pretty beat up. If you are a crafter at all you can turn that case into a lovely piece by covering it with a pretty piece of fabric. I'll bet J Miller would love to get hold of it and make it beautiful.
