Default Help Identifying this machine.

Hello. I have recovered vintage sewing machine marked "Mason". Is it possible to get more information from you about this beautiful machine? It's made in Japan (marked on bottom "J- A12" with serial JNZ 650086) and I think was distributed by Mason company (Vancouver, Canada). What I have found so far - similar model in different color - SUPERBA with logo "M & M" MEESS & MEESS DUSSELDORF. Thank you!

Welcome to the QulitingBoard.

The machine would have been manufactured in Japan, I would guess late 50s early 60s from the look of it, and "badged" with the name of any company that wanted to sell it; this would be the "Mason" badge on the left. The Mason Sewing Machine on the right looks to be a sticker put there by the company which serviced the machine at some point, my guess anyway.

Mason Sewing Machines has been around in Vancouver since the late 40s, so they could have had this machine badged for selling in their store(s).

Hopefully Janey will jump in with the link info for the "J-A" numbers, might be able to find some information that way.

Joe is right - it is a badged machine and I do have a link for JA # it is at http://www.doubleveil.net/zssmp/resources.htm#jajc When I looked it up I found the JA-12 indicates that it was probably assembled by Brother. I also looked at Vintage Japanese 'Badged' sewing machine with fancy stitches and Vintage Japanese 'Badged' Zig Zag and Straight Sew Sewing Machines I didn't find any there that were quite right. I did find an American Beauty badged machine like the Mason at http://www.doubleveil.net/zssmp/ambeauty.htm Zorba collected some information and pictures of similar machines. The one that is like the Mason was Contributed by "Midori" (probably a user name from ebay, etsy or Japanese sewing machine group). I did an image search for vintage Brother sewing machines and didn't come up with any machine that was quite right.

I could be incorrect, but I would date it a little later than Joe's estimate. I think the built-in decorative stitches came a little later. Unless some original documentation came with it, it is hard to pinpoint. Even with some of the documentation it is hard to tell much about the machine in question.

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

Lucky you! It's a really cool looking machine, with all those fancy gizmos.

Thank you JoeJr! I've tried to ask contact the Mason company on facebook but no reply so far. I may call them I guess or even visit, not so far from my home.

I was thinking that if I was close to Mason Sewing Machines I would carry it in and ask about it. Please follow up if you do that and learn anything from them.

Thank you! I will do it also. Marketplace of facebook is very active on Vancouver area - half of the machines I am dealing now from there, others - craiglist. Just recently (after my retirement) have found that I like to repair sewing machines.
