Default Help Me!! Singer 15-91

My quilting group has been gifted this machine in a model #65 cabinet.

I have oiled it according to instructions in manual and cleaned out and refilled grease cups. My problem is getting the thumb screw back on the bottom grease cup.

There's not enough room to grasp the screw. Is there a secret to getting it back in place???

I surely can't tell you how to get the screw back in but put it in something with a
good fitting lid before you lose it.
Someone with the correct advice will come along tonight or maybe in the morning.

It's a bunch handier if you remove the gearcase and motor assembly.

I do not have the mechanical ability to do that.

I agree, it's easier to remove the whole motor. First remove the balance wheel, as shown in this video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5lICoYsNMMU .

Once the wheel is off, you will see two pretty big screws screwing the motor assembly to the machine head. Remove those. The gearcase and motor should be able to come right off and you will be able to get at your little grease cup screw much easier.

Hopefully this helps.

Wipe out the extra grease. Just take a Kleenex or some kind of "wiper' and clean up the so that the pot isn't so full. Clean off the screw, too. See of that works. That worked for me.

Well, I got the grease cap back on without removing anything.

Thank you NZquilter for the video. I think I could actually remove the hand wheel after watching.
