Default Help with replacement feed dog for Singer 750

    Hi all,

I'm trying to find a replacement feed dog for my mother's Singer 750, so that my daughter can use it for sewing class.

I ordered a part from an Amazon seller but, unfortunately, it was too wide for the base plate.

The original part (black) measures 1/2" from outside edge of one prong to the outside edge of the other. But the new part (silver) is wider, measuring over 1/2". See the attached photo.

(Sorry if I'm mangling all the terms...)

Any ideas for online sources that will have the right part for my machine? I'm hoping I was just unlucky with the previous order, but wanted to check here for your collective wisdom.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Phil

The original part was coated with rubber to grab the fabric. I believe you aren't getting a true measurement of the old part because the rubber is missing. The holes for the screws appear to line up on both parts. Have you tried installing the new part?

Pennycandy is correct, the original was coated with rubber https://www.vintagesingerparts.com/p...99bafb47&_ss=r However, I have heard that the metal replacement is sometimes the preferred part. It is possible that a little bit of adjustment (with a Dremel type tool). From your image, it may not need any adjustments. Perhaps starting at the lower part of page https://www.manualslib.com/manual/11...page=13#manual will be helpful.

Thanks for everyone's responses so far.

The screw holes for the new part are correctly spaced and I was able to install it in the machine, but it does not fit in the face plate (correct term?) since the prongs are too widely spaced.

"needle plate" Is it too wide from side to side or front to back (as you are getting ready to sew)? Were none of the following helpful?

Or I have heard that https://store.tandtrepair.com/ is helpful with slant shank Singer machines.

It appears that T&T has the rubber one in stock. Be aware that he is in American Samoa, so it takes a little longer to get answers from him. Shipping also takes longer. He knows his stuff, though.

Thanks, this is great. I'll review the manuals and check in with T&T.
