    the cool folks over at Needlebar have solved part of the mystery. The shuttle text should read..."DRGM 74486".

    This means " Deutsches Reich Gebrauch Muster " which was introduced in 1891 and is an official registered design or function. (i.e it is the German equivalent of Pat Pend...)

    First Stitches, 4 layers of light cloth.

    Right to left Largest setting, smallest setting (wow!!) medium setting.

    I still need to remove and clean the tension unit, but for a first test it is cool!

    ok, so I wondered about leather...

    this is 4-6oz Bison

    No Problem... Just wow.
    It was rough getting started on the two layers but once in motion, zipped right along..
