How to find belt for vintage White model 426?
Hey all, I'm new here, but not-so-new on the planet. Anyway, got hold of this old White cabinet model 426, great old metal workhorse, but... The lugged belt that was on it was not the right one, it spins and doesn't grab. I think it needs a round belt because the pulley has a round groove in it. Is there some place where I can find out the belt I need? I've googled it and contacted an eBay seller and ordered the wrong one already.
Is there anyplace that's a storehouse of this kind of info? The belt should be 12" long. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

There are a few places I go to for belts; fleabay, sew classic, helen howes in the uk. I guess there are a few who specialize in parts for older machines. Do you know what kind of belt the orginal was? V-belts can be a bit hard to find in some sizes, but lugged belts and stretchy rubber belts can work well. Stretchy belts are round and a bit more forgiving when it comes to size and adjustment. I would contact someone and describe your situation. I have to warn you, I have and old Singer, I've ordred belts three times now, and I still don't have the correct one. I might go fo a stretchy belt next time, and maybe try a lugged belt.

When someone comes to the shop, in need of a belt, we put it up on the bench and try a couple. Nothing beats having the machine right there to try some different belts. Sometimes you can get a round vacuum cleaner belt to work. The lug belts come in 2 grades. If you're sure it's a 12" belt, get the 12.00 "superior" belt, it's a heck of a lot better than the regular belt. Here's a part #1200LT. Retail on these is $5.90.
