Default How to reinstall the needle "jib" for the 319?

Well here's another needle type question for any 319ers! I removed the needle assembly to clean it and discovered a little doodad inside -- supposedly the needle "jib." It has a little stubs pointing up and down, one of them is longer than the other. The jib has a groove in it for the needle.

I've gone through the manual trying to find a picture or schematic that shows how this goes back together, without any luck. I would have taken a picture of this, or made notes, but I didn't know it was in there and it just fell out!

So would the longer "nub" point up or down? When putting this thing back in should I try to keep it somehow inside the clamp and install on the post? Or put it on the post and try to slip the clamp over? Not having luck with either choice... any advice appreciated (and yes, I'm obsessively doing this on Christmas Eve!)!

    Thanks for any help!

I made a thread a few years ago and there is a pic of how to do it on there: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...c-t162425.html
The info is in window #116 it is pic by Candace but it won't hurt to read that whole thread and you can learn gobs of stuff about 319 sewing machines. I love those machines. They are a lot of fun to play with and they sew very nice.

Miriam, thanks for sending me to that thread! I had actually read through the whole thing before I took the machine apart (and learned a LOT), but didn't remember at ALL the bits about the needle jib. Probably because this hadn't happened to me yet! I'll try this again tomorrow now that I've seen the photos again.

Candace doesn't really say if the long or the shorter "nub" should point upward... I'm guessing it's the longer one because you can actually see it sticking up there?

I'm thinking the long part goes up - groove in the middle holds the needle - be sure not to lose that little front end screw - you can not beat Candace's pics on that one. Once you get it you will laugh at yourself.

FYI: I have seen that kind of needle clamp on 201s and 15s as well. Maybe other old Singers, too. Anyway they all work like in Candace's pictures.
