Hi Miriam. No poll opinions for you but wanted to let you know that your last 5 photos did not load and when you click on the attachment link you get an 'invalid link' or somesuch error message.

BTW - I have a couple of more machines about that vintage/condition that I could contribute to your collection if you were closer!

I'll try to load pictures again and see if they work - I have real problems loading pictures on QB - maybe there is a limit and I exceed the limit or something. Makes terrible thread doesn't it. Maybe I should just quit trying.

The bottom side is black rather than shiny metal coated with oil. There is no end to the fuzz.
This was just a pic of the bottom of the bobbin area.

The last pic I tried to post - I've gone over and over and over this base - it still looks horrible but it is smooth feeling. I think the shellac has filled in the dips. Would you leave it and move on or do something else?

I would either treadle or crank it.

I'm not sure my answer would change, but I always prefer reverse. so maybe a 99 with reverse (mainly because smaller footprint), or a 15-91...if we are talking the irons. But in the lighter weight category...301 or 401.

    a) strip off old finish and Paint it
    b) keep going over it and hope for smoother finish
    c) strip it and shellac it buy new decals
    d) strip it and shellac - no new decals
    e) give up and leave it like it is and use it
this is a tougher question...e. Sounds good.
On the other hand it would be a good candidate for experimenting with stripping. I would not bother with decals, strip and paint (and then shellac) seems like a LOT of work.....so my choice would be d.... to try and maintain paint but re-shellac. Not sure if that is possible.
