This post cracked me up because I opened it BECAUSE it was a new thread that did NOT have Feather in the title....

(Disclaimer: I do not own a featherweight, but my friends mom has the "FW Flu" bad. She is up to 13 machines now... ONE gets used, but they are all "cute" and "worth a bunch")

Some folks use them for sewing events and that is awesome, because Singer made great stuff back then, but if you are looking for anything other than "cute" or "light" I don't see the benefit.. Smaller motor, smaller harp, smaller "stuff".

I could trade a Featherweight for 2-3 good German MOP hand cranks and that is Goofy.....

(getting on my asbestos suit...)

Funny! Me too. I don't often open the Feather titled posts. They just aren't that interesting to me.

I love using my Featherweights for piecing quilts and the occasional garment. I have 3 of them.

Joe, Back in 1954 I bought a new Featherweight. Had just moved into my own apartment and I loved to sew. When my mother came to see me, she took one look at the machine and said, "You'll never be able to sew a coat on it, it's too light, so better take it back and get something sturdier." I did take it back. Then in 2000 I found a lady in Anderson, SC who had a business of buying and selling Featherweights. I was able to buy a 1954 Featherweight from her. Paid about $350 if I remember right. But at least I have the same model I had before. My go to machine is a Pfaff 7570, and my backup is a Brother CS6000i. My FW goes to classes or trips with me. I don't have room to set it up and keep it up.
