I would have to see that. I'm using an old pink Elna ZZ & SS right now. Elna's are a bugger if the thread jams. Yes they only go back together one way. I wonder if you busted a gear below when your thread jammed... those can be pricy to repair ask me how I know. If it is a busted gear, the machine will feel like it has some gravel stuck down there somewhere - exaggerated. It also sounds crunchy.

After another day of working, I got it pick up the thread. It looks like the part of the little slot that the bobbin thread snaps into is bent slightly. What would do that? Sewing stick on velcro that looked like sew on until it gummed up the needle and jammed the machine. Yikes! It's a wonder I didn't do more damage - just shows the quality of that machine. It will be okay until the bobbin runs out. I have a feeling changing bobbins is going to be an issue until I see if my repairman can straighten it. I'll have my son look at it the next time he in the state. He's stronger and more patient than I am.

I thought of you Miriam as I cleaned out my bobbin area & oiled today. Felt so virtuous. Looking closely, even found microscopic lint clinging to the needle: not obvious at all.

Did your thread jam bend it? I absolutely hate sewing on Velcro and that gummed stuff ought to be banned. It doesn't stick unless you sew it and if you sew it there is no end cleaning up after it. It might be how I ruined my Elna motor. I wonder what chemical you have to use to get all that gummy off the machine? If there is any on it you may have issues with the machine for a while. I have an Elna parts machine.

It was a used piece of Velcro and didn't look sticky. I'd never ask any machine to sew through an adhesive. Only the needle was gummed up and I threw it away, but it must have been the jam that bent the top of the slit where the bobbin thread snaps in. I'll keep your donor machine in mind if we can't straighten it. At least it's an easily removable part. Is your donor the light blue 62C? Regular Velcro is no problem. I sewed two strips to a heavy neoprene arm brace after I found some sew on.

Yup it's old blue. I've been using an old pink Elna. It sews Velcro just fine.
