Kenmore with cast iron base - need part for rare bobbin winder
#21
From needlebar - Sears used the Kenmore name from 1913 to 1919 and then dropped it until 1934. Sears was good at having manufactures modify machines so that they were not identical to any others sold.
This is also interesting - for reference, the top shuttle is identical to a Singer shuttle.

I think the bottom one is what would fit your machine. It's not identical, but the contour is similar, especially the slight dished nose.

The assemblies' frame work is identical but mine is fashioned to accommodate a shorter bobbin - the pin on the left is longer (see 2nd image above), and of course the assembly mounts differently since it has a gear to meet up with a spoked wheel driven directly by the hand crank (instead of a tire being rotated by the hand wheel) - so it mounts differently too.....
Bending the arm won't help, since it will then over-shoot on the other end....
Maybe an arm with a shorter extension towards the heart-shaped cam will alter the path.... more like the Singer ones. Macybaby/Cathy does point out that Singer bobbins are short as well......

Cathy -- thanks for that link with the ad for shuttles :-)
I compared them with the one I have for the Kenmore, and I'm afraid there is no match. For better identification, I have included a more pertinent shot of the shuttle:

(FYI, the shuttle is held in place by scissors.)

Very interesting and unique shuttle, a real head scratcher. Looks like the early Singer shuttle without the "waist". In the catalog D and B are Davis, A is Singer, and C appears to be National / Eldredge. The original would be very difficult to replace, don't lose it.

It would be real interesting to compare the base with the one on mine - It's also possible that Sears had it made with a different shuttle carrier specifically so the shuttle had to be bought from Sears. If the casting is the same, then a different shuttle carrier and shuttle should work. Once I get everything set up, that is also something I want to try - swapping carriers and shuttles between machines to see if that works.
