I pretty much hit a dead end with this. I contacted the manufacturer of the bulbs sold by 1000bulbs and they are only 12 lumens, that's on the dim side. I did see halogen lights available that throw out a lot of light but halogens run hot enough burns are a real possibility. They may even harm the finish on your machine.

Like Libby, all this info or lack there of gives me pause too. I think I will go with CD and just get several of the clamp on lights for my machines. Then I can move them to where they are needed. I think Bonnie Hunter has gotten ones like that at Ikea but I am sure they can be found elsewhere. Thanks to all who did the research on these. I had actually bookmarked the ones on ebay but think I'll delete that and go with the stand alone ones. I hate to waste my money on stuff that doesn't work as it should and is expensive to begin with.

This is kind of off-topic, but I got some education on LED lighting recently when one of our display lights quit working.

It was one of those common under-counter lights with a single 24" fluorescent tube. The tube was built-into the base and had a cord to plug it into a normal outlet. It seems like it cost around $20 the last time I had got one, but our hardware quit handling them. So, I bought their LED under-shelf unit that was supposed to be comparable to our old fluorescent unit, at the cost of $35. I think it has 18 LED lights in it.

I installed the new light in our ribbon display unit, plugged it in, and flipped the switch on. My wife and I looked....then giggled....., and both decided that we now have a really cool nightlight above our ribbon.

There are always new products coming out so maybe something will turn up in the future. Good discussion here - Guess we just have to ask questions to get the right info to see if it will suit our needs and our machines

I just purchased one of these for my Singer 15-91 because my current one puts out yellow light and burns extremely hot through its glass shade after a few minutes of use. I am hoping it will fit as the photo looks like mine and I know other Featherweight attachments fit it. Expected is delivery date is Oct 30; I'll post the results once I receive it.

I've had a couple like that. They just get old (the two I had were in there for several decades) and lose their efficiency. You can still get the long ones, though. They're only 15W these days but they're quite bright (old ones were 25W).
Generally with lighting I'll choose fluorescent replacements for element style bulbs. They're a nice compromise between brightness and efficiency and although they still get warm they're a fraction of the heat of tungsten. Haven't seen anyone make these small enough for a sewing machine yet, though, so I'm still using the long 15W ones.
Rodney mentioned halogens: Sounds like a fire waiting to happen.
One problem with LEDs I found is that they have trouble making bulbs that produce warm light. They all seem to be that cold blue light.

The LED lights produce much more light for the wattage and run cool. I don't think I would pay $35 for a light bulb though! I have a fixture in my living room that takes 15 bulbs and although the bulbs do last quite a while, the sure don't last as long as the LED bulbs. We have found (at Home Depot) the LED bulbs for this fixture and are in the process of filling the fixture with LED's. They aren't cheap, so it won't get done all at once!

I ordered one from http://www.singer-featherweights-rev...our-store.html and I love it. Apparently, the white Featherweights have a different bulb base from other Featherweights. This website has both bulb types in the LED version.

LED bulbs are always expensive. Sewing machine LED bulbs are no exception.
