Left, Left homing?

Left, Left homing?
Hello all,
What is the difference, if any, between a left needle and a left homing needle? A couple of my ZZ have left only needle when SS'ing and will, of course, move off position only during ZZ'ing. And on the L.C.R machines, the needle bar stays vertical when moving L or R, but on my Singer Merritt 2404(?) from Brazil, the needle bar cants L or R on a pivot point making the needle enter the fabric at a slight angle. Thought that an arrangement odd.

Sounds like your Merritt uses a swing needle arrangement. Singer used a swing needle on their 206, 306 and 319 machines too.
I'm currently working on a White branded zigzag machine. It's left homing but the entire needle bar moves from side to side when it's zigzagging. I think it just depends on what kind of mechanism the engineers came up with.
