Default Look what my son got for his birthday

My son is addicted to old machines as I am.
His daughter found this machine for $10.00 so got it for his birthday!

    The serial number is G 4 930 160, dates to a Model 66 allotted in 1916.

Please look at the nifty bobbin cover that is on it and the bottom for the foot control. Can you guess what they are made of?

Can't believe what some do to these old machines. Also the decals are different. I tried to find the name with no success.

I always say, you can fix anything with duct tape!

The poor thing! The bones are there and with a few new parts it can live again.

That is a piece of tire inner tube covering the foot pedal. The check spring on the tension is all bent or pulled out of shape too.

Son plans to get the parts needed to get it sewing again. I will post again when it is fixed.

Sad looking machine, but cool decals. Are those grape leaves? Bluebells? I would love to see the "after" pics of this one.

    Ethel,
The decals are called "Eye and Trefoils".

Alabama chrome - some people can't live with out it.
My husband does handyman work. He got one job because someone's husband tried to fix a sky light leak with it...
It looks somewhat like the one in my avatar.
See Glenn's info on the finish before you do ANYTHING. That dust on there is shellac.

I'm thinking the decals are different after all. If you try to clean off the brown stuff you will lose your decals. And I don't know what the decals are called.

I like the decals! Your GD has a good eye. I'm seconding Miriam on the shellac. Handle that one gently or you'll lose the decals.
