That's great. My 3-yo Grandson was here this weekend, and was really eyeing my Singer 319W treadle. It won't be long and I'll have to get him started on a machine.

They can learn an amazing amount. Wilbur learned to oil things when he was 3 - he oiled his rocking horse with Dawn.

Glenn this gets easier by doing more of it. The finish on this one was in horrible shape. It is still a little rough but it should go a lot longer now that it is cleaned up. Inside was in nice shape. Since the motor was cut off I put a wheel & HC on it. Miss L (pictured) got out some mazes and dot to dot and went to town sewing on it. Then we did some stitching. She is soon going to be ready to sew her first quilt if she can keep the fairies out of the shop...

yeah - sorta - this one was really bad - the finish was like stuck grains on there - it was tough not dissolving all of it. I had to keep going over and over and over. I used a lot more linseed oil than before. I'm not sure what it does but it seems like that was what I needed to keep the shellac from dissolving too quick. Sure I wanted it to dissolve but I wanted to keep the decals gold. I'm wondering if I should have sprayed it with shellac and at what point? There is some silvering cause I'm not Glenn but for the most part I won. The machine itself had not had a lot of use. I think it should be good for a very long time if someone would use it. I should have shot a pic of Miss L using it. Best smile of the year...

Wow. Great job and I am excited to give it a try! I skipped out this morning trying to gather ingredients and darn California and their craziness, I am having a hard time finding Naptha. I went to 3 hardware stores, a tractor supply and a paint store. The paint store sold me Crown Naptha-thinner swearing it is the same thing. I looked on-line and no it is not. *sigh I will have to keep looking.

I have a machine I want to start on as soon as I get the Naptha but it has been previously wiped down with sewing machine oil. Is that going to be a problem?

naptha - Ronson lighter fluid. I think but cant remember for sure...google it
