Well, this one isn’t one of the “special ones”, but it’s a nice machine and came with the cabinet cradle attached including the hinges, button holer #160743 with a packet of extra cams and manual, complete box of the normal 301 attachments, 301 Instruction Manual, large and small Singer screwdrivers, assorted other tools including screwdrivers, a wrench, and a small pair of CeeTee pliers, a boat-load of hand sewing needles in their packages, 4 extra vintage Class 301 bobbins (the good ones), the bobbin rack out of a Singer Cabinet drawer, a used Singer Class 301 bobbin case (that looks fine), a slightly-used tube of Singer Lubricant in the original box, and an assortment of wood screws.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but having an assortment of extra screws can come in handy at my age, should I have the misfortune of losing one of my loose ones.....

Yeah, go ahead and make all of the fun that you want. This thread is about “The machine that I Fiddled With Today”, and that’s what my post was about. That’s the machine that I fiddled with today. I’m sure that all of your machines are much more special than mine.

Well, guys I fiddled with a black 301 here too. I got most of the inner workings cleaned and have the motor in pieces but ready to reassemble tomorrow. Then I'll give it a test sew.

The insides have been pretty easy to clean the outsides on this machine are going to be more difficult. The finish is awful on some parts of the machine and seems fine on others. I don't have a firm plan laid out yet for how I want to handle it. The bed was the worst and in trying to clean it up I completely removed the damaged clear coat and the decals along with it. I am planning to replace the decals. I need to really evaluate the rest of the machine and spend time pouring over Glenns tutorial.

I highly doubt that CD. My last post was a just bass ackwards way of saying Holy Cow! You got enough stuff with that machine to set up shop. What a haul.
Any way, I fiddled with mine today too. Almost finished with the machine, might start on cleaning the cabinet tomorrow. Christy I also had a finish issue with mine but on the back in just a few places. Luckily it didn't affect the decals.

The spare used Singer 301 Bobbin Case that I found in a Singer bag in amongst the extra goodies that came with my latest 301 appears to be in fine condition, but it has a layer of oily lint build-up in the back of the case. I suspect that the bobbin was possibly getting bound-up, or the case became difficult to latch, so the owner bought a new bobbin case for the machine.

There’s a good thick layer in there, so the owner was probably having problems with it. It was certainly a nice surprise to find it, and really helped to make my $80 purchase even more of a bargain.

Yeppers, you did good with that one. It wouldn't surprise me if you dug a little more through the haul and find cash stashed, lol.

Nice! I got a spare bobbin case with one of my 301s too but it looks different. The edges look sharper. I haven't tried it yet. It was missing an adjustment screw which I've replaced and need to test it. Do you have the model numbers of your Singer 301 cases?

Default "Improved Faultless" treadle, how can you improve on Faultless??!!!

just pulled this one in from the local CL, $75 seemed like a good deal. It's been used as furniture for years, maybe decades, the cabinet is nice, the machine looked nice, but can't be turned at all yet. thought I'd found the problem, carpenters pencil stuck inside, but nope

Used SM oil, TF oil, Liquid Wrench, a heat gun, undo it from the lower end, take loose the needle bar. I can still only get it to budge, something less than a hair when rocking it back and forth. Tried cheating it with Channel-locks on the shaft with the handwheel removed. Tried looking down in there with a mirror and a flashlight, in case they were using the pencil to try and fish out some other little treasure. Oh well, patience...
