The Machine That I Fiddled With Today
#712
I've been good (not bought any machines) in about 3 months. I made a short road trip today and picked up a Singer 185K in real good shape in a cabinet. I haven't cleaned or oiled it yet, but it's turning good and stitched just fine what little I did to check it out. Somewhere along the line loading it or something I snapped off the plastic spool pin. It's a 1958 model.

a day of lost screws... I got a call from the gal that bought the Phoenix from me a while ago. The machine was making big loops on the bottom of the fabric.... So she decided to 'fix' the machine herself. She took apart the bobbin tension since there were big loops down there and lost the screw. Then she called and wanted to know if I could fix it. Well, you never know so I told her to come on over. (I figured she forgot to put the thread through the little hole in the tension...) In the mean time I messed with the tension on a Singer 401 and lost it's tiny little set screw for the end knob. It's still out there somewhere. Anyway I wasted a bunch of time looking for it. Then the little gal came over. I found an old junk bobbin case and pulled out the tension screw... nada - no luck so I pulled out that tiny screw from inside the bobbin case and it fit!!! Fixed in 3 minutes... So we got the tension back in order. Then I made sure she knew how to make that machine sew for the next 2 hours.... I sure hope she has friends that need sewing machines...

Yes it does remind me of the little tension screw I lost out of a 201-2 I was working on. It went "sproing'" and I heard it hit the tile floor. I searched that floor on my hands and knees....every square inch multiple times with a flashlight for days. Never did find it.
