I'm so glad you aren't going to repaint it! Check with Glenn how to preserve that machine!

That's such a sweet story. Think about putting this story (and other stories and information) in writing and keep it with the machine.

What a wonderful treasure! Mine is not fussy about brand of needle, but I prefer Superior Thread's titanium needles. I think they are made for Superior Threads by Organ. They cost about $2 more a pack, but they last longer !

That's wonderful that you cherish your Mom's FW. I still use the 1964 white FW my Mom gave me when I was 11 to learn to sew on. Last year my neighbors across the street gifted me with two more FWs - black-one from 1950, and the other from 1953. One was his mother's and the other was her friend's mother's FW. I have one black from 1948 that I'm refurbishing. Then all my grandchildren will have their own FWs when they grow up. I'm teaching my 7 and 5 yr old to sew on their FWs now. Just learning how to control the speed and to follow a straight line. No actual stitching yet, just sewing on fabric with no thread and following marked lines on paper. Eventually they will get the hang of it.

Enjoy your machine.

Your story put a smile on my face.... I'm so happy for you. And the 15x1 needles are the standard ones you find at any LQS. Other machines take needles that are hard to find but not the FW.

I was so lucky!!! I mentioned to my good friend that I was looking for a FW to add to my collection, she said "I have one I never use, do you want it." I told her that it wouldn't be fair for me to take it, because it was worth something, she said "I want you to have it, because I know you will appreciate it." The machine had been her mother-in-laws, who has been gone a long time now, so, I brought the lil girl home and named her "Midge" after her first owner. She is a 1934 and with cleaning and tri-flow she sews perfectly. Just love her. I also gave her box some tlc and wax and it looks mighty fine too.

What a good story! My FIL wanted me to take my MIL's Sears machine which had a nice cabinet. He just couldn't understand why I wanted the dinky FW in a case!! You are going to make sweet things with your Mom's machine.

So happy that you have this special family heirloom. I too, have my mother's FW AND my mother-in-law's FW and yet a third FW from a dear family friend - guess that makes me 'thrice blessed' !! Many happy hours of sewing are wished for you...
