It is because we become addicted and like to see the older stuff used and useful, not thrown in the dump like things today, where it is cheaper to throw it away and buy new.I have my grandmothers 201-3, a Kenmore I got in the 70's, a Kenmore 19000 embroidery I got in 1997, made by Janome, a brother SE9000 for all the fancy stitches and now a White Rotary made in 1911 and got my Singer 66 made 2-20-1920 yesterday. Can't have more because I have no more room. But I would if I could, it is an addiction for sure.

No such thing as no more room. You just have to rearrange and be really creative. I've had to rearrange 3 times, but I still have all my keepers in one room.... and you can still (mostly) walk around. DH said it might be time to put some on display in other rooms. I'd say he's well trained, but I think he's just trying to stop that corner of the house from sinking.
