I have this machine as well as several of the Kenmore Sewing Machines. They are well built and worth repairing. I love to sew on them because they have such a beautiful stitch. I've repaired several and sent them to good homes. Good luck with this cutie.

    Default Kenmore 158 17560

Hi - this is my first time posting so I hope I'm doing it correctly. I also just purchased the same machine yesterday. It seems to run fine. Light works. Has all the front machine parts. Didn't come with any cams(although I've never used cams and am not sure how they work.) it is also missing the bobbin holder and I think the pin?? Is this something I can do myself or do I need to bring it somewhere? I don't want to pour a ton of money into it but I would like to have a good mechanical machine. I was wondering if Blackberry was able to find all the parts she needed.

welcome, posted almost flawlessly. If you can size the images to more like 640x480 you will save our members who are on rural dialup some aggrivation.

Welcome! Beautiful machine BTW. (I collect 1901 and earlier so I know Nothing about these...)

    lynneyav,

That's a nice machine, but it's going to need major surgery. Not only is the bobbin case missing, the shuttle race assembly and the shuttle hook are missing too. The bobbin case and the spool are an easy item to find. I don't know about the other parts.
    Here is the Sears parts look up for your machine: { http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part...hdMod=15817560 }
Those parts are not available from Sears any more so you'd have to find someone with a donor machine, and someone to assemble and time the parts.
Sears does show the owners manual as being available though.
Cams are the Kenmore top hat cams. They come in various colors and are listed on shopgoodwill.com a lot.

Hard to tell from that photo, but it looks like the shuttle race is there, it is just missing the shuttle hook and bobbin case.

    Mark,

MY BAD, you are right, the shuttle race IS there. I lightened up the picture and could then see it:

So, it looks like all that's needed is a shuttle hook and bobbin case. The hook should be findable.

Thank you all so much for you input! I will begin the search for a shuttle hook and bobbin case. I will look into your suggestions.

My guess is that this thread is no longer looked at BUT just in case,., I have owned this model for 43 years. The "inside" of cam dial has just popped. My local very experienced repairman was reluctant to work on it without a service manual. Any help of any kind is welcome. I guess I should search for a "parts" machine.

I have a 1756 and it's one of my favorite Kenmores, one that is very well worth repairing. Yes, it does the chain stitch with the appropriate attachment.

The 158.1756 is very similar to the 158.1410 (which does not take cams) so you'll likely find same/similar parts between them.

Yours is in good cosmetic shape. Mine came in a cabinet, although I wish it had come in a carry case:

I have this machine and have loved it for 43 years. It has just become disabled and my local repairman doesn't want to tackle it. In setting up the cam, the dial popped. If I could get a service manual he may look at it. Any suggestions?
