I just checked the auction to see how high the bids have gotten....yesterday, there were 14 bids on it and it was up to $77 with over 2 days to go. Anyway, now it appears that the seller cancelled all the bids & ended the auction.

Huh...interesting. I wonder if somebody else made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

I think I'll wonder about the story behind that machine for a long time.

    Default Left needle only(left homing)

If you look at my post "3rd. cousin quilt/blankie" and look at the second picture of a Dressmaker from the 70's(?) and if you zoom in on the needle plate area, you will see a thin black line. That line is a piece of 1/8" graphic tape from Hobby Lobby. The tape denotes the 1/4" mark to the right of the needle for my
seam allowance. My Riccar has the same setup. I do not find any issues with left needle only machines. It's more of personal thing and really does not bother me. I have several in the stable and do switch them around depending on what color machine I want to use on a particular day/project.

OK....Now the machine has been relisted! http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Kenmore-...item5420745daf It looks like the only revision is that the seller took everything out of the box for pictures.

Do you think the factory applied oil could have gummed up in the long time it's been stored? There is factory applied oil right?

Yes, I think that's possible. I'd give it a good oiling even if everything seems to be moving freely. It certainly couldn't hurt....
